This just continues the long term trend. Only a relative handful of people are willing to accept the hassles of being an elected official. The school district has only four people seeking three seats. The township is three people seeking three seats.

I have a feeling that little will change in the near future, as slamming elected officials is pretty much the community sport of choice. A LOT of people who could do very good jobs in the rolls are simply unwilling to put themselves and and their families up as clay targets.

Confirmed by the Middletown Journal, Anna Hale is the write in candidate.

Anyone else want to throw their hat into the ring? Are there any unsung heros out there who know Monroe politics?

What if the pay made it worth your while? What would it take to get your interest in running?

$500 per meeting? $12000 yr? Would that do it?

How much would it cost for you?

I've actually considered getting involved...the pay is a footnote IMO...I really like living in Monroe, and I've always wanted to get into politics.

Perhaps next round I'll give it a go!

I do not like voting for people that I cannot find anything about...I cannot determine who either of the city council candidates are?  Or even this Anna Hale.  When I taught my daughters to vote, I had them investigate the candidates and issues and go with the information written down.  I told them the most irresponsible thing they could do as an American is to be an uniformed voter. I wrote my own name in...as much as a protest again these candidates not being forthcoming as anything else.  When I first moved to Monroe almost 10 years ago, the city council was more open about what they were doing and who they are...I don't have that same feeling anymore.  I believe Anna Hale was part of that old council, if so that would speak well of her.  Basically, I've decided that I AM going to run for real next election...for either school board or city council just so that I can get the candidates to be more forthcoming.  I voted for Carpentar for school board basically because he at least made an effort to let people know about him.

I agree with Kim, we know not what council is doing. None of them speak to the press, have a blog or post on any social media site that i know of. I don't have time to go to council meetings so how do I find out what's going on?

Ms. Hale has a website. Google works well Wink

IIRC, didn't she run for a state rep position a couple of years ago? She's not new at all!

I believe you are referring to Suze Rubin here.  Different councilperson.
