Consideration of Motion authorizing the expenditure of $39,793.20 for the purchase of tasers
for the Department of Police.

Recommendation. Authorize the expenditure.
Background and Discussion. Chief Buchanan provided information at our last meeting for the
need to purchase replacement Tasers for the officers. The motion will approve the expenditure
for the purchase. The purchase was considered and approved within the 2015 Budget.

The Police Dept has used the Taser X26 since 2008. These units have come to the end of their
useful life and are no longer supported by the manufacturer. We have planned for the
replacement of the X26 with the Taser X2. This purchase also contains a 5 year maintenance
and replacement agreement with Taser called the Assurance Plan. This plan covers the cost for
the repair or replacement of a unit for any reason. It also includes the replacement cost for 30
Taser units at the end of five years.

This initial purchase this year will be $39,793.20 for the Tasers, the 1st year installment of the
Assurance Plan and accessories.

The assurance plan cost for five years is $31,672.50. Because we are implementing the new X2
Taser agency wide, we are receiving a $200 discount per unit for a $6,000 savings. The total
cost for the plan will be $25,672.50, and is broken down at $334.50 for this year and $6,334.50
for years two through five. Based on the fact that this covers all maintenance and replacement
costs, this is a significant savings for the City.
