Kristina Mayes, Income Tax Commissioner, gave a presentation on an income tax amnesty
program. Taxpayers to satisfy their obligations without penalty to run September 1 through
October 31. Collect outstanding debt and increase our revenue. It has been successful in
surrounding communities. Currently, there are 950 accounts with past due balances exceeding
$750,000 and 1,475 non-file accounts. This program will apply for tax years 2015 and prior be
for accounts 2015 and prior. The withholding accounts will be on a case-by-case basis.

The tax payer would come in the office and complete a tax amnesty program application and file
all delinquent tax returns, including 2016 if they do not have an extension, and pay all of the tax
and interest due. They must remain compliant within two years following otherwise the penalties
would be added back to their account.

2017 Tax Amnesty Program

You could save hundreds of dollars!

Monroe's delinquent taxpayers have the opportunity to pay their back taxes without penalty. The tax amnesty program will run September 1, 2017 and end October 31, 2017

The program will waive penalties on all accounts that were due prior to tax year 2016 when the tax and interest are paid in full by October 31, 2017. Taxpayers must file an amnesty application, along with returns for the missing tax years, and make their payments in full.

Letters will be mailed to the known delinquent taxpayers with details about how to participate. If you do not receive a letter, but believe you are eligible for the program, please email us your name, address, and phone number at
