Mr. Eric Silverman, Athletic Director gave a PowerPoint presentation updating the Board on the status of the
stadium turf and the track. He introduced a representative from the Motz Group, Mr. Tyce Rupert. Mr. Silverman
explained the turf was installed in 2005 and are regularly used by multiple classes and groups within the school.
It is also used by all multiple athletic and community groups. He said the life cycle is ten to twelve years, and we
are entering year fourteen. It is still safe for use but the fibers are deteriorating. There was a pad put down
under the turf at the beginning which has helped lengthen its life span. Mr. Silverman said the Motz Group has
continued to maintain it. The track has been maintained but is coming apart in areas. There is increased
maintenance cost because it is out of warranty. He warned that it could impact site hosting for tournaments,
and also impact playability. Mr. Silverman shared a timeline for replacement. He also shared the cost to replace.
The turf replacement could cost close to $360,000 and the track replacement would cost about $250,000.

Mr. Leeds asked how many years could go add with this turf. Mr. Silverman said we can continue but with
patching it as we go. Mr. Leeds said if we wait a couple of years are we looking at additional costs or new
technology? Mr. Rupert said if you wait then the cost could snowball. The cost has increased as materials have
increased. Mr. Leeds asked if the turf could be used in the baseball field. Mr. Silverman said it could be used for
a batting cage but not the filed because of drainage. Mr. Rupert said it does have some usage. Mr. Rupert said
the replacement is just the turf- not the pad. Mr. Leeds asked if we could use the existing pad and Mr. Rupert
said that we could.

Mrs. Stone asked when we might start getting the funds through the agreement with Prologis, and Mrs. Cahall
said we would likely start receiving the funds in two to three years. Mrs. Stone then asked if the money would
have to be up front or if there is a payment plan that is available. Mr. Silverman said there are different payment
options. Mr. Grant asked if the turf could be used for a field house, and Mr. said you would need some padding
and could be used for batting practice but couldn’t be used for some sports. Mr. Guido said the field is used so
much. He asked if there a recommendation for the future that we look at all the ways the field is used. Originally,
the field wasn’t used for practices because of unnecessary wear and tear on the field. Mr. Silverman said it is
difficult because we are so limited on space. Coaches even agree to split the field. We are maximizing all the
grassy areas, and try to rotate to different areas so the spots are not worn. Mr. Carpenter asked if we could put
soccer goals on the old field for practice. Mr. Silverman said that grass is a different feel when they are practicing
to compete on turf.

$700,000 carpet replacement, on a field that was sold to the citizens on the suggestion that it would pay for itself through payments for usage for tournaments.
And its already known that the citizens of Monroe are expected to pass another levy to build another school.
Hopefully, at a certain point, the city will be able to start calling in the markers on all of the tax abatements that have been passed out over the past couple of decades.
But, once again, far be it from me to call into question expenditures. Everyone should just pony up so we do not have to live in a chit hole.

You're right. $200 a day, 365 days a year for children to play games on carpet is a great way to spend school funds.
Questioning government spending habits is just one more game of pretending that the citizenry actually have a say in the mechanisms of local, state and federal government.
Much like voting, anyone with half a brain knows that its simply a play act.
We pretend that we still have a voice.
When in reality, if you are not at least a millionaire, you have absolutely no sway what so ever in any level of government.
Hey! Big day on Tuesday! Mid Term fantasy voting!!!

What do you mean? Because I question where my tax dollars go I’m some sort of mental defect in your eyes? If you actually knew me you wouldn’t question ‘how I get through each day’

I just watched too much George Carlin and read too much Hunter S Thompson as an impressionable young man. Now I’m late in my third act and can’t shake it.

Fair enough. You ask me a question directly. I will answer. Yes. There are many ways that tax monies are spent that are wise. This is not one of them.
But I will also ask one of you. Do you think nearly $700 thousand is a wise expenditure by our school system for the replacement of carpet for games to played on?

"the life cycle is ten to twelve years"

"The turf replacement could cost close to $360,000 and the track replacement would cost about $250,000. "

Sounds like they should budget $50k/yr for this reason.  You cant own a car and not expect to replace tires.
