Butler Tech has aquired for $2.75 Million around 36 acres near and part of Americana Amusement Park.

Included in the sale are Americana’s former parking area, the former Couch’s Campers property and the former Fantasy Farm Amusement Park.

Butler Tech will develop the property along with the city of Monroe, which plans to convert the remainder of the property into a park.

Butler Tech superintendent and CEO Jon Graft said:
“Our secondary enrollment is at its highest level in history, and our five current campuses are nearing capacity.” Acquiring this property allows us to increase our educational space in a cost-efficient manner while also giving a new life to one of the most nostalgic sites in Butler County.”

Monroe City Manager William J. Brock said: “The city of Monroe welcomes Butler Tech’s investment at our western gateway. They are an outstanding educational institution that will revitalize currently underutilized properties which have held a valued history in Monroe. By virtue of their acquisition, all properties of the former amusement park area will be eventually managed by local governments committed to improving the sites for community welfare. The city looks forward to partnering with them on various redevelopment opportunities to promote both learning and future recreational activities.”

Butler Tech will renovate an existing 27,000-square-foot building and an adjacent 13,000-square-foot high-bay building. It plans to begin holding classes there by August 2018.

Americana Amusement Park was also at one point known as LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park. It opened in 1922 as a picnic area and campground, and then transformed into an amusement park in the 1940s.

The park changed its name in the 1970s, and fell into disrepair following an electrical fire in 1990. It closed its doors in 2002.

While I am happy to have Butler Tech locate there, I was hoping that area would have been more of a public park with commercial food, bike shops etc.

I had a dream.

I am glad to see Butler Tech expanding. I recently read an article siting 2 congressional bills promoting post high school Technical Schools and Community Colleges. Reasoning is that many technical and non-degree jobs are vacant while college graduates with BS degrees cannot find a job and high school grads with no additional training/education are not qualified.
