A new trend is hitting Twitter and Facebook, taking pics of your food and sharing them with your social network.

Which Begs the question:

Is It Rude To Take Photos Of Your Food In A Restaurant?

I don't know if it is necessarily "Rude", but I cannot imagine that anyone cares enough about what you are eating to want to see a photo of it.

I have tried to take a few photos, here and there, when I have experimented with new dishes.  However, for some reason, I feel like the photos always make the food look awful, so I usually just don't bother.

Ugh lol

This is part of the reason why I never joined instagram etc. These different trends with pictures just makes think that this is a passive version of making people sit through vacation slideshows lol

My wife usually does this when we visit a new resturant and the food is wondeful. She sends it to my daughter so she can remember to try it.

I've heard of people taking pictures of their genitals and sending them to other people. Sounds like a pretty funny thing to do. Might give it a shot sometime.

The notion that it adds ten pounds is fictitious. (or at least that's what I heard)

So no one has ever taken a picture of a birthday or wedding cake, right?

I think there is one of my birthday cake when I was 3, that was 1960. Kennedy was still alive and people were taking pics of food.

I think any chef should be proud to have a pic taken of their masterpiece. If they don't like how their food looks, I don't want to eat it. Big smile

Cakes become a whole other category, and a special cake becomes part of documenting a festive occasion.

If you made the dish and it had presentation qualities, then yes, capturing this might be something one might want. But food ordered and presented in a restaurant, really says what? You have chosen and can afford something worthy of capturing, and will keep as a sort of souvenir? When published, it takes on a whole different meaning and purpose! JMO

Now, if you were capturing something that you personally killed, caught, and chased after, and documented, it becomes part of a whole process separate from just ordering and filming, and the finality of that picture is the end of a happy, happy, happy circle of enjoyment, enlightenment, and fulfillment!ClapWinkSmile

I don't know.

When the waiter sets something like this down in front of me I have to take a picture.  It doesn't matter to me that the only thing I did was order.

In fact here I didn't even order the dish.  I simply asked the waiter to bring what he most enjoyed.

That dish was called "the animated forest"

The mushrooms were made out of a mirague.  The "moss" is a sponge cake.  That branch sticking out of the right is actually made of chocolate.  There are some really young strawberry in there...and there was some ice cream in the base of it.

It was amazing.  This is the restaurant it came from; it is run by two brothers who are regarded as some of the best chefs in the world and reside in Spain.
