![]() "Life: Oh What A Tale To Tell The Captain." Just as I have been the author of my journey through life, so shall I be the author of my obituary. I was born March 29, 1926, to Roy William and Hazel Liming Bake. My life journey began on a beautiful farm, a land grant from Thomas Jefferson, on Yankee Road in Monroe. The Bake family of German descendants was a major agricultural producer; owning multiple farms in Butler and Warren Counties, as well as having farms in Indiana and owning the Indiana Farmers Bank. I've enjoyed a wonderful, event filled, and fulfilling life. My experiences were unparalleled to most. I've traveled extensively, once meeting and staying in the late Marlon Brando's villa in Tahiti. I enjoyed the opportunity of meeting two past United States Presidents. One of my highlights was riding atop an elephant with the Barnum Bailey Brothers Circus. Hosting and attending parties and social affairs, provided me the most wonderful opportunities. I've shared a drink, or two, with everyone who was a who's who, a what's what, or at the very least thought they were. Never, have I driven in the slow lane. I created my own, literally, driving my Mercedes full speed ahead. My careers were so that I never held employment I didn't love. During Middletown's glory years, I worked with the late Judge J. T. Lamb. At that time, Middletown Municipal Court was referred to as, "The Middletown Mafia." Oh, the tales I could tell! Later, advertising held my interest, during which time I held positions with the Middletown Journal and The Franklin Chronicle. I've met the most interesting people along the way. Preceding me in death were my parents, Roy William Bake and Hazel Liming Bake Stoutenborough. Adding to the sorrow of loss, was the death of my only child, Michael Woodrow Bake, and my favorite granddaughter, Heidi Nicholle Bake. Surviving me is my daughter-in-law, Donna S. M. Bake; my favorite granddaughter, Heather Michelle Bake; my favorite grandson, Christopher Matthew Bake; and my great grandchildren. My legacy is I know how to wear high heels, and I know how to use the pointed toe. I was born, raised and hoped to die in Middletown on March 29, my birthday. That funeral nonsense in not for me. As I have forgone my last drink of quality bourbon, and the opportunity to do something nice for others, I would ask that you do just that. Call an old friend, take someone to lunch and think of me. As always, Toodle Loo! Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.herr-riggs.com
