It was called Main Street Social.... formerly the name was The Red Onion, now it's closed again.

I wished the place was more popular with the locals. But to be honest I was not impressed with the way I was treated as a customer.

There was not the friendly atmosphere that former versions of the restaurant enjoyed. And the menu was limited and stagnate despite being told by the owner that new menu items would be forthcoming.

However the food was good and there was a good selection of beers.

I hope someone new comes in and takes over because it is so close to home and I really enjoyed being there in the past. And most of all I miss Mark and Gary and John.

I agree. I was not impressed with the service. Menu was ok but nothing that caused you to tell others about "the incredible _________, that you HAVE to try!"

Very underwhelming.

I also agree. Not the warm, welcoming atmosphere that The Red Onion had. Food was pretty average with no imagination. And music was not "background"---MUCH too loud -another negative to the atmosphere because conversation was imposible.

We went a couple times for lunch and more times for evening drinks.
Agreed, the music was way too loud for conversation. It was turned down when we mentioned it, but it shouldn't have to be mentioned.

We had an issue with our credit card statement....no overcharge, not at all. It was an undercharge. I left an $9. tip which was never charged to my credit card. I went to see the manager (Andy?) after I got my statement and told him that I was not charged for the tip but I was sure the server got the tip, and that his cash drawer would have come up short.

I worked 20 years in retail at the cashier end and I knew the drawer had to have been short. Trust me, the server got their tip. After a long and detailed explanation he had one comment. He said why didn't I come in sooner. I had my receipt in my hand and said my statement just came due and I just found out. So somehow this was my fault.

I opened my wallet and wanted to give him the 9 bucks but he wouldn't take it. Oh well. Hope another business takes over and is successful.

I remember Voice Posters having beer meet ups at the Onion. I sure miss those days.

This is an old video from Google Videos. They closed Google videos down so I ported it over to youtube a few year back. But this was around 2002

John,
Do you know if the building has sold? It was listed for a bit, but no longer is. So I am wondering what they will do with this space. I am currently looking at a couple places (bar & grills) in both Monroe and Trenton to buy and might have an interest in this space. Its been over 2 years since I bought my first bar, ready for another.

Thanks

I know the place was rented from the owner upstairs (Brandywine).

Yes I knew that, and even the amount of rent that was being paid. But I also know that the Chef at Brandywine, was trying to sell entire building and now it is no longer listed. So I will have to do some digging.

Wow! I was actually in that video. I don't recall you ever doing that! Anyway, are everyone speaking in the video still alive? Wasn't the Tracy guy the Monroe councilman that actually lived in Miamisburg during his tenure as a Monroe councilman?

Hey Mr. Beagle,

That had to be quite a bit later than 2002. Maybe late 2004 or 2005. mburs didn't have ownership of the Onion in 2002. Johnny Fadden did.

Just thought I would clear that up.

We moved to Monroe in July 2005. The Red Onion opened AFTER that.

Technically the Red Onion opened sometime in the late 1800's.
Was revived in name a few times in between.
It's iterations as of late were brought about by a gentleman named John Fadden. Then owned and operated by Gary H. And then by Mark B.
The Red Onion was well in operation before you moved here in 2005. I know this because I was helping John, here and there get it going as early as 2002.
I was just letting Mr. Beagle know his video was not from as early as he thought it was. Due to the fact that Mark appears in it.

Yea must have been around 2005. Wasn't sure of the date because it was lost when Google Video closed down.  Still that is 10 years ago. We were all so much younger. lol

I wasn't aware of Red Onion iterations prior to 2005. I do remember that the site was closed when we first moved here in April 2005. Looking at Voice "archives", it seems the "NEW" Red Onion opened around July 2005.

Melass,
No problem. Somewhere in the area of 20% of current residents are villagers. Ask any of us a question of history and we can give you an Answer.

Actually the 'new' Red Onion opened well before 2005.

Don't doubt there have been "NEW" Red Onions under it's many iterations. I Just know that the site was closed when we first moved here because we were excited to see what was going to open at there since having moved from Kansas City we were happy to see the potential for a "neighborhood meet, eat and drink" spot so close to home. We really enjoyed THAT iteration of the "new" Red Onion,

And once again the Red Onion is forced to close it's doors. How sad.

I think it is a perfect location for a "Dave Grant's Hornet Smokehouse"
