Consideration of Motion authorizing the placement of a Tree Memorial in honor of Kaylie

Source: Monroe Council Agenda
Regular Meeting of Council
June 26, 2018 – 6:30 p.m.
233 South Main Street, Monroe, Ohio

To Monroe City Council,

The purpose of this letter is to request approval for a tree to be planted along with a
tree marker in honor of Kaylie Jackson at the Monroe Crossings Park. Natorp
Nursery is donating a buckeye tree along with the labor to plant it. A 10 in x 20 in x
5 in granite marker is being engraved through Schott Monument with Kaylie’s name,
dates, and a brief saying (approved by her family). The granite marker, reddish in
color, will be placed in the ground flat, not protruding, so that cutting the grass will
not be a problem.

The Parks Department Superintendent and Officer Brad Jackson selected the
location for the tree. Officer Jackson is the liaison for Kaylie’s family and the
memorial efforts. See below for photo of the location at the park.

Review of the Tree Memorial Information:
Tree species – Ohio Buckeye tree (Aesculus glabra)
Tree size – Height 6-7 feet, trunk diameter is 2 inches
Marker material – Granite
Marker size – 10 in x 20 in x 5 in
Installation – Natorp can plant the tree on a Saturday with 3 days notice

If you have any questions about this tree memorial, please contact Leslie King or
Chris Humfleet (Natorp). Thanks for your consideration.
