I wish he could have said this months or years ago. Uncertain what the FCC will do but at least Obama is finally siding with the American people (and Google, Apple, Facebook etc) and not Comcast and Verizon. Still as this article points out, not 100% convinced that loopholes don't exist and he's just saying this stuff to say that he's trying.

I'm not sure its a good idea to let government interfere with individual businesses. And creating another utility is good? I don't think so.

If we let the market decide on the internet we will be better off in my opinion. Just don't tax it, that's my biggest concern.

As far as 'too late', too late for what? The election? It wouldn't have mattered.

I meant too late for the decision. This should have been in place years and years ago before it got to the debate stage. Now, of course, people have taken sides and any decision will be thought of as a win or a loss in the political column, with little regard to actual policy.

It's one of Obama's many missteps in predicting future political climates. His biggest one was the debt issue. Could have raised the debt limit years before we had trouble with it with basically no attention paid to it. Then of course, it became a huge issue for the wrong reasons, Republicans fought it and basically shut down the government and threatened to do so many many many times. All at a net loss for the American people.

Americans really like the online service they currently have and strongly oppose so-called “net neutrality” efforts that would allow the federal government to regulate the Internet.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 26% of American Adults agree the Federal Communications Commission should regulate the Internet like it does radio and television. Sixty-one percent (61%) disagree and think the Internet should remain open without regulation and censorship. Thirteen percent (13%) are not sure.

According to that, 19% believe more government regulation is the best way to protect Internet users and 56% think more free market competition is the best protection. 25% are undecided, it says.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post on the subject under the title “Ted Cruz: Regulating the Internet threatens entrepreneurial freedom.
