MOMENTUM AWARD PRESENTED BY THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO MONROE LOCAL SCHOOLS

ELEMENTARY - Ms. Charlotte McGuire with the Ohio State Board of Education presented the
Momentum Award, to Principal Nancy Stratton and elementary teachers. This is the second consecutive
year that Monroe Elementary School has received the award. It is presented by the State Board of
Education to those schools in the State who exceed expectations in student growth for the year. Schools
must earn straight A’s on all Value-Added measures on the State report card. The school or district must
have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which includes gifted, lowest 20% in achievement,
and students with disabilities.

Ms. McGuire said Monroe Elementary said that what really defines a school is how much progress each
student is making. She said the momentum award is given to Monroe Elementary because they have a
large number of economically disadvantaged students and have made strong progress in educating
those students. She said every student has possibilities, and this award is in recognition of exceeding
expectations for student growth for the 2016-2017 school year. Mrs. Stratton said it is the teachers’
award, because they have earned it. She introduced the following teachers and administrative staff who
were there to accept the Award: Theresa Morris, Emily Bauer, Heather DeBord, Shannon Kelly, Allyson
Kittel, Becky Eschmeyer, Sara Owens, Jenny DeBord, Katie Gaston, and Melissa Giffen.

Ms. McGuire thanked each one of the teachers. She said to keep the momentum going!
