So, just heard since men's volleyball is not a school sponsored sport that these kids are trying to still form a team for this year but are being presented with many complications. First, they are going to be charged $15/hour to use the gym for practice. They have to get their own jerseys even though the school already has some and have to also pay the refs. They already were self sustaining and provided their own transportation to and from matches. This is absolutely ridiculous!!! Where is the athletic boosters when these student athletes need them???? Oh yeah, they are giving their money to the AD for benefits!! An AD who is already a double dipper! Unbelievable that we vote in a levy for the KIDS and yet the KIDS seem to get screwed anyway! Whatever happened to IT'S FOR THE KIDS?? We always volunteered our time to the Boosters since they are supposed to be for the student athlete so it's about time they stepped up for these kids too!

I know, I know....we don't even have a son playing but this is just wrong and needed to be said. So very disappointing. Anyone who seriously wants to help I'm sure it would be very appreciated. The coach is volunteering his time again this year as well.

I am right here.

Is Volleyball a Varsity sport or Club Sport?  That would determine how it is funded.

Okay just got my own answer.  The OHSAA does not recognize Mens Volleyball as a Varsity sport, therefore it is a Club Sport and does not fall under the administration of the school district.  It is not that Mens Volleyball is not a "school sponsored" sport, it is not a STATE of OHIO sponsored sport.  The schools are bound to the rules of OHSAA, so they are just following the rules.

Hope that helps clear that up.

So Southbound, I think you owe Dave Bauer an apology for ASSUMEING that it was his fault! Get the facts straight before we start pointing the finger and blaming someone.  And one last thing, is there a law that says your so called double dipping is against the law?  Don't think so.  If many of us had the opportunity I am sure most would do it!   Thank you!

Lets get the facts straight before we start jumping all over the AD, Boosters, and the school!

Thanks Paul

Mostly because talk like that is factually incomplete and incorrect....maybe the screaming is warranted?

Excuse me Paul!!! Did no such thing ASSUMING Bauer was to blame. You need to get your facts straight   before you go off on someone. Tell me it is not true the Boosters are paying his benefits then and only then will you be correct about something. That is probably the biggest crime of all in all of this.....why do they feel the need to take that money from the kids and give it to him. I always thought people should be responsible for themselves and if he cannot afford his own benefits he would already have them with his retirement. So what if the sport is not school sponsored, that Booster money could and should go to those kids in any sport!!

The point in the first place was that these kids have had this sport for 5 years or more so why take it away now? They were already self sustaining. It's just a shame that they can't just do what they had been doing for 5 years.

Well no worries, this will be my last post as I definitely have better things to do with my time then argue with you and Paul when you don't know the half of what's going on. Just 'voicing' an opinion on what a shame it is to take from the kids. Apparently no one can do that when you have such a huge stick up your butt about everything and everyone you don't agree with.

Southbound you need thick skin to post on here. One thing you should remember is that people who read this might just share your opinion and are just afraid to be post it.
