My wife went and took our boy and was impressed.  Our two weeks has been filed with Earth Angels and our younger son will be attending Hilltop.  Our older son is at Hornet Haven and loves it there.  From my understanding the open house was filled with people that are currently attending Earth Angels, so there were a lot of familiar faces there....teachers, admin & students.

Does Hilltop have a website?  Or does anyone have their contact info?  Our youngest is currently at a daycare outside Monroe (in Lakota SD) and his older sister will be at Hornet Haven next year, it would be nice to have them in the same area vs. opposite directions!

I just put our notice in to earth angels yesterday. We are hoping to move to Hilltop but haven't signed up for sure. But I can tell you that they are AWESOME! All the teachers there were teachers at earth angels that left and my kids LOVE them. we were so sad when they left.

The owner's name is Vicki and she is amazing. The phone number to Hilltop is 513-360-0123.

Her other location is imaginations at work - they have a website but there isn't a ton of information on it. If you call either number you will get someone who will give you all the information you need. They are super nice. We really hope to go there!!

Thanks for the Imaginations at work reference - the state site that lists inspection reports has a pretty awesome review for that location (and they are a 2 star location in the star program the state runs.)  The Hilltop location wasn't listed yet.  I think i'll call today to get more info too, thanks again!

yeah hilltop has to be open a certain amount of time before they can be certified but the other location apparently is phenomenal based on reviews and references i've asked - you will be very impressed just by talking to them! the hilltop location is very nice too - they have a huge area in the back for the kids to play outside

Found out the other day too that at earth angels they've been letting the school age and preschoolers play a violent zombie video game on the computers there.  I was very upset.

You are never too young to learn about the dangers of the walking dead.

Do you have a link for the game by any chance?  I'd love to play it.

When I called last Thursday the woman I spoke with said she'd mail me the brochure, I received it on Friday last week already.  They are less then the current daycare my kids attend (Kids R Kids in Liberty Township.)  I am meeting with them tomorrow morning for a tour.  I'm not comfortable giving out their info but I'm sure they would share if you called - 360-0123.  I spoke with Stacey and I'm meeting with Kerri tomorrow.

The tour went really well.  You can tell the building is older but they've done a good job updating (i.e. painting, carpet, equipment, etc.)  It isn't going to hold very many kids, my son would be in the infant room and the max is 8 kids.  They do group together ages 6 weeks to 18 months in this room, which is different (all other centers I've had experience with have several levels of baby rooms.)  The 8 student max (with 2 teachers I believe she said at all times, I need to verify that) helps ease my concern a little.  He'd be moving rooms in August when he hits 18 months also.  That rooms (18m-3.5 yrs) was nice size, max of 12 maybe?  I need to verify my #s from my notes.  The school age area seemed a little small for the 14 kid max (I believe she said 14, notes are in the car) but our school ager will be going to Hornet Haven so that is not currently a concern for us.  I met with Kerri, the director of this location who came from the Atrium Y childcare.  She was very nice and friendly and seemed organized and efficient.  Reviewed the teacher bios, seem to have a good staff lined up (on paper :) and they are striving toward the same 2 star level in Step Up to Quality that the Lebanon facility has (deals with ratios, curriculum, etc.)  They don't have the Watch Me Grow system (webcams to check on the kiddos during the day) which we've always had.  There are some definite pros and cons, at least for us at this point.

Are you planning to tour also?  Or have you already signed up?  Just curious, she said they have 3 spots filled in the baby room and i think 8 in the toddler room.  I like the small class sizes for certain, but also like the thought of them being closer to capacity for revenue/operating purposes (i.e. avoid the EA issue of cutting teacher salaries and being off on ratios...)

Overall I was fairly impressed Smile

I can tell you that the teachers are excellent - we already know most of them from our previous daycare. The school age area is smaller but I think with the limited amount of time they will be there it probably won't be too bad.

The majority of daycares I've toured or had my children at did not have more than one infant room. Child Time in Monroe offers that but they are rarely full enough to have to use the two rooms. All the daycares I've experienced also do infant rooms as 6weeks to 18 months, so that's actually pretty standard.

I also think they can move up from the toddler room as soon as they are potty trained - and I thought it was to 2.5yrs? I could be wrong.

Earth Angels, where our kids were, is a brand new facility but it is super small - probably smaller than this one. And the play area at Earth Angels is so small - I liked that the Hilltop daycare had a HUGE play area in the back.

We are really hoping to enroll our kids there - my son said several of his classmates are transferring there and he already knows and adores the teachers. He will be in Kindergarten this fall.

I hope you end up signing up! Maybe I'll see you there!

They just invented this thing today called Google.....when you type stuff in it shows you more information than you ever thought possible. You will never guess what happens when you type in Hornet Haven Daycare......I will tell you to keep the suspense to a minimum.....it shows you more information than you ever thought possible.......Big smile

I couldn't find any information - I tried their website but it says under construction. I did email the church and ask for more information.

The director at Hornet Haven is Miss Marty, her email is hornethavenmumc@cinci.rr.com and the phone is 539-0433.  I talked with her this morning to make sure we are set for Monday and she said she has one spot left for the full week in the summer program (some days had more than one opening, but for mon-fri full time there is just one spot.)  She is super nice, you can tell by talking with her that she loves what she does and is good with kids.

I think my husband is going to stop by Hilltop next week once it is opened to get a feel for it.  I'm definitely interested and was mainly trying to list the things we saw as pros and cons, even though non of the cons were deal breakers or exceedingly negative things, just different from what we've experienced before.

My son starts next week as well.  After the billing snafu you had, we made sure to email the owner a couple weeks ago notifying her of our departure.  We weren't given any documentation when we provided our two weeks notice and I didn't want to get billed for additional weeks when we actually gave notice.

Surprisingly, my wife received a very nice email back from the owner saying she's working on getting things sorted out as well as providing better communication.  For us it was a little too late.  I think she's quickly realizing that Monroe is a small town and word travels fast so the high and mighty attitude doesn't carry too far.  It appears that a lot of people are departing.

I'm very late to the conversation but want to add a different perspective.  I know everyone has a story to tell but my experience with Earth Angels has been positive and enriching.  My children have truly grown and when I visit it is clear they are happy and well adjusted.  It is unfortunate others have not had the same experience and I can only hope your new venture is a positive one.  I have seen the great work of the owner and her staff and am uplifted by the dedication to the children.  Bottom line........everyone's situation is different but it is important to focus on the children and in doing so, if we find ourselves facing a challenge, the approach should be one that is professional and above board.

Yes every situation is different, but I also feel it is our duty as parents to inform other parents of goings on with their childcare providers. It's a courtesy. If you read the thread "Daycare Laws" you'll see why some of our experiences have been more treacherous than others. I'm glad your experience has been good. I never want children to have bad experiences with their childcare providers. However, our experience has been a nightmare.

Viking - The owner has indeed been being very courtesous since the whole debacle. She emailed to let me know she saw my post on here about the whole billing issue. I would venture to say that seeing all of the inappropriate things being shared made her wise to the realization that you should be careful what you say to people, especially when you put it in writing. She has been very professional in correspondence with us ever since. However, I don't think anything really can make up for what's happened in the past. It's time for our family to just break our ties and have a new start.

There are in fact several children moving from Earth Angels already, and I'd say probably more once Hilltop is up and running and people see how nice it is. My oldest is so excited to be with his old teachers again and excited that some of his friends are coming with him. The owner and workers of Hilltop have been SO AMAZING. They are genuine and really know what they are doing. I can't even begin to explain how excited and relieved I am to be switching and to feel like my kids are safe and getting the care they deserve again.

Totally agree as parents we should share our experiences.  My message would be for each family to not only rely on any of our comments on a virtual blog and but to take a tour, meet and interview your potential childcare provider and assess the facility, staff and environment "first-hand." By doing so you are able to form your own individual opinion based on FACTS and not personal conjecture and situations.  We owe it to our children to do so.  None of us can be "all things to all people."

How has the opening gone for Hilltop?  It's only been a couple days but I'm wondering if things have gone smoothly.  My husband is going to try to stop by to check out the facility later this week before we make our decision.
