Congratulations and welcome to Mrs. Katherine Demers, hired at tonight’s Board of Education meeting as the next Superintendent of Monroe Local Schools! Welcome to Hornet Country! 🐝

“I was looking for a district where I can devote my knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward the growth of the organization while directly working with students, staff, administrators and community members both on a personal and professional level. Monroe Local Schools is the ideal complement for who I am as a school leader.” - Ms. Demers

Kathy Demers begins work Aug. 1, replacing Phil Cagwin who announced last August he would retire, effective July 31.

Looks like she has a strong Personnel Admin (HR) background. I think that is a good thing.

if I'm not mistaken it seems people use our district as a stepping stone to a rather large retirement.

It has nothing to do with students and everything to do with cash.
But I cannot blame them I would do the same thing.
Your humble and faithful servant.

John Beagle interviewed School Board Members Brett Guido and Dave Grant. Here is the Q and A.

Beagle: If you could help me help our readers understand a few things, that would be great.

Guido: Kathy has more than 25 years of experience in Ohio Public schools.  She began as an elementary teacher, served as a building principal, assistant superintendent at Huber Heights and is  currently working as the assistant superintendent in the Wyoming City Schools.

Beagle: I would love to get a few responses so we all can understand the process, the reasoning, and the benefits regarding the hiring of Ms. Demers.

Guido: We were thankful to have a large number of staff and administrators assist the board in our decision. Kathy will be in Monroe beginning in April, and will work with Dr Cagwin to transition into her new role. We look forward to beginning an exciting new chapter at Monroe.

Beagle: You said there were a large number of staff and admins who assisted with the process. Can you expound on that a bit?

Grant: We had each finalist go thru 3 cycles where 1 consisted of teachers, next 1 was admin, and the 3rd was the board. Every group asked different questions and those other 2 groups provided their feedback to the board. It made a great interview process because we got all the questions answered and all the insight we needed from each candidate.
