UPDATE ON POLICE DEPARTMENT FACILITY: Mr. Brock said their police department is busting at the seams.
He  said  they  are  adding  eight  police  positions  this  year  but  don’t  know  where  to  put
them.  They  are considering a facility to accommodate fifty police officers.  They were
considering a site directly behind the old high school. He said they first looked at the old IGA
but couldn’t reach an agreement. He shared a map which showed the possible location of the new
police department. He said the proximity to the city building is important. It's not the case that
the land would be free. Mr. Brock asked how the school board felt about Police Department being
expanded onto the old high school site. Mr. Guido said it is hard to decide since we don’t know
what the police facility will look like on that site, Mr. Leeds said the architect would place the
building  on  the  site  in  different  ways  and  if  a  facility  was  on  the  site,  it  could
limit  the  possibilities.

Mrs. Stone said that property is valuable for future student growth. She said that we need to keep
our options open and available, especially when it is several years in the future.  She said she
doesn't know how we can decide now without knowing. Mr. Brock said it’s apparent that the school is
not that far from needing more space.

Mr. Leeds said as a citizen of the area, is there any way to move the post office, and Mr. Brock
said if the post office is asked to move then it would move out of town. Mr. Guido said he would
look at the language in our property deed about what we can use the land for. He said the Matson
family signed the deed, donating the property to the school. They gave the majority of the land to
the school. Mr. Guido said we want to honor that original agreement, but if there is a way to
benefit the School and City, we should at least investigate that possibility.  It was agreed that
the Board’s lawyer should look at the property agreement to see if it can
be used by the City.

Mr. Catanzaro said he would be interested in looking at the possibility of having shared parking.
Dr. Cagwin said we have three acres behind the bus garage that could support a building.  Mr. Catanzaro showed a visual of the property.

Interesting discussion considering that only a few years ago they were willing to GIVE the property away.
