On this date, October 28th, 1886, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated. Here are the last few lines of the sonnet “The New Colossus” which is on the brass plaque found on her: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”. May she stand forever and may our Americans hold true to these beliefs.
