Monroe Mayor Robert Routson at the last regular meeting of council made a motion to rename the former Americana Amusement Park to Bicentennial Park.

Since Americana Amusement Park and LeSourdsville Lake no longer exist, Mayor Routson proposed to rename the park, Bicentennial Park 'since we just  celebrated our bicentennial this past summer.'

Council persons Hale and Clark also pledged their support of the mayor’s proposal to change the name.

Please, please, please do not tell me that sign is real.

I'm sure the city will pay for a new sign, but temporarily this it vintage Americana.

Ordinance No. 2017-29. An Ordinance supplementing Chapter 204 of the Codified Ordinances
naming certain park land Bicentennial Park.

Mrs. Hale expressed her opinion that for historical purposes the name LeSourdesville should be
part of the name of the park.

Mr. Hickman suggested naming it Bicentennial Commons or LeSourdesville Landing. He further
suggested that the park have an umbrella name and different areas within the park could have
different names to recognize the historical names.

Mr. Funk stated that when he hears the word park it is a place where the community comes together
and not with the word commons.

Mr. Hickman advised he is aware of several recreational places with the word commons. He
suggested making it Monroe Bicentennial Commons.

Mrs. Hale reminded Council that LeSourdesville is the name of the subdivision the area is located
in.

Mr. Hickman moved to amend Ordinance No. 2017-29 to reflect the name Monroe Bicentennial
Commons; seconded by Mr. Clark. Roll call vote: six ayes. Motion carried.

Mrs. Hale moved to consider this the first reading of Ordinance No. 2017-29 and have it read by
title only; seconded by Mr. Hickman. Voice vote. Motion carried.

The Clerk of Council read Ordinance No. 2017-29 by title only.

Mrs. Hale moved to approve the first reading of Ordinance No. 2017-29; seconded by Mr. Frentzel.
Roll call vote: six ayes. Motion carried.
