FACILITIES UPDATE AND DISCUSSION

MONROE  SCHOOLS: Mr.Catanzaro gave an update on building a new school building with the State’s
support. He said we were on track. However, in late March of this year, the State said other school
districts which were originally lapsed from the list, have now agreed to accept the funds and that
has pushed Monroe lower on the list.  We are now not in a position to receive funds from the State
if we were going to place a Bond Levy on the ballot in November, so plans for that have changed.

Mr. Catanzaro said that we had finished the Master Plan so we were ready to be funded. The Board
made the decision to build a new Elementary School on the old Lemon Monroe High School site. In
addition, we would  demolish  the  current  Primary  School.  He  said  the  Board  is  ready  to
move  forward  when  funding becomes available. He said that in the fall the State will update
their equity list. There is no guarantee that the 49 % State Funding level will stay the same. It
had been 49%, but it may be less when we are placed back on the list.

Mr. Catanzaro  said that this winter they will run new  enrollment  projections. It’s expected the
State  will propose a new state funding share.  In order to accommodate growth, Dr. Cagwin said the
Board did eliminate new open enrollment at the Elementary for next year.   He said we only took 20
new students this year in grades 7-12. Mr. Guido said he thinks we will get more in district
students before the start of school. Mr. Guido asked if funding was more likely by 2020, and Mr.
Catanzaro said the State has not committed to a time frame. He said we need to plan for the next
five years in our current structure. Mr. Guido said before June, 2017, we still had to pay back
funds to the Bond Fund and were not in a position to pursue building funds.  Mr. Frentzel asked if
the building configuration will be reconsidered, and Mr. Catanzaro said they will
review it again when enrollment projections are updated.

Dave Grant I just read the article. Not sure where that quote came from. We will abate any bad items in the school, but there has been no decision on tearing down the building. It may have to be used as swing space in the future.

FYI: Dave is a school board member.
