The Monroe community finally became informed on the consequences of failure of the levy and moved the district forward. The kids of the district thank you Monroe.

Still not sure why there are still questions with all the literature that was distributed by us and plenty of time to get questions answered before the vote. Not surprised though.

Congratations Monroe !!!!

Let me try to explain with an analogy.

Say I'm a teen. And I have exactly $0 to my name. Yet each month I borrow $20 from my mom to spend. Until I realize that I'm getting further and further in debt to my mom. So I make some cuts. I cut $20 from my spending. That's fantastic because now I'm not getting further and further in debt. However, those cuts do nothing to pay back my mom for the months I was spending more than I had.

Comprehend just fine.

Structure sentences just fine spelling needs work!

Yup comprehend that spend, spend, and spend and will worry about the money later. Won't worry about keeping within a budget!

Good job Monroe I congradulate your efforts!

.....  but you can also find comfort knowing that your Child/Children will have the education they deserve and WILL be able to graduate with every opportunity afforded to them rather than the bare bones 'just enough' we could have been looking at.

Thank Goodness this levy passed!!

If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing.

If the levy had failed, we would have lost our standing in our league.....and would have needed to fight for years to ever get it back.  If sports was your focus, supporting the levy still would have made the most sense.  Just saying....Wink

I to am happy to see the levy passed.  I have many friends who are teachers and I am happy for the school, I am a little disappointed that in todays economy and many workers getting cut in pay, pay freezes, bonus taken away, etc... that there was no pay freeze for the duration of the levey.  JMO
Thanks Paul

No sports wasn't the main issue.

Kind of like what Paul said no pay freezes for the duration of this levy while workers take cuts.

The levy is to start to be collected in 2012. I must pay an additional $200.00+ this year in property taxes so that will come out of my pocket. Being on a pretty fixed income (standard 40 hrs). That $250.00 for pay to play + the taxes is close to $500.00 if not more.

And just to clarify this isn't about "me" I'm sure there are plenty others out there in the same situation. Just My Observations and Opinion!

That was closer than I expected. I did vote for the levy, glad it passed. Probably will be good for home values.

We don't move for another couple of months so I didn't get to vote, but I would have voted yes. Glad it passed!

I am very glad the levy passed.  I do wish we could change education finance so we could stop having levies all the time...

I am most bothered by the fact that we don't appear to get full art and music back.  They may seem unimportant, but on the world stage; creativity is what sets Americans apart.  I can write reams on this if you want me to establish this point and to put you to sleep...  Obviously math & science are the price of competing, but innovation requires visualization.  Visualization starts with basic art education at a very early age.

To offset the increase in taxes for the levy... a group of us have started a pool to see how long it will take for them to blow through this gift and come up short once again.
Most bets say it will not last til the expiration of the levy before "oops, bad choice - dang now we need more money..."
In this town, history has a great way of repeating itself...

At least in our pool we know where the money will be going!Wink

Congrats! LMAO!!

I agree. We know so much more about how the brain works now. Art & music are not just extras. They stimulate areas of the brain that remain untouched by other learning methods. With all of our mind engaged, we actually learn those other subjects in a more comprehensive way...

So now that the levy passed where do we, as a school district, stand with the state? Do we elect a new school board now or does the appointed board still control the finances?

Correct at some point another levy will need to be passed, if you don't think so your crazy.  Every 4 to 5 years one will be voted on.

Keep in mind, this levy only helps to keep what we already have.  It does nothing to help add anything new.  So yes, there will be another levy in a few years.  Doesn't take a genius to figure that one out!  Glad it passed, it's a start.

We are fine with a levy after this one is over...Duhhhh
The odds in the pool are how far into this one before they go "Gosh darn it...Where DID that money go... but we need an additional levy to REALLY start paying stuff off... we mean it this time...really! Just trust us! Its for the kids..."Cry

Next election vote in new board members then, if you have no faith in the current ones.

I forgot it's easier to Censored and Cry

They need a pool on the hill, I hope they build one.

This board was not the one that screwed up the money situation, give them a chance, do you want the origin board in there that was ultimately responsible?
Thanks Paul
