Paul, There are not enough wise people with conservative perspectives to do the right thing with the money on the current board.  And it would be immpossible to get the board loaded with such people - all in the same term.  Personally, I'd like the state to manage the money over our local board!  The current board jumped on the Berns deal - knowing full well it was a long term invest for which they did not have the funds in the short term to cover.  It will be more of the same... unless some board members have had a conservative reality check on what a "need" is (like say...text books) over a "want" (like say fancy stadium & admin prop).

But I am happy you are a happy camper!
Well... at least until another audit comes out in the Spring and says "geez...those figures weren't right and that wasn't the right amount to ask for.... still way too short and we did nothing wrong!!!!"Shocked

Stand Proud Monroe!!! Keep moving forward as an Excellent School District.

We should all be commended for being informed voters and voting yes.

To all those that I served with on the levy committee, awesome job!

There are only TWO current school Board members that were on the Board when the financial mess occurred.  Why would we get rid of the whole school Board?  Most of them are intelligent, well-meaning people who are helping to set things right.

Some people on here don't want to hear that only TWO current school Board members were on the Board when the financial mess occurred.

They like to blame everyone.

I remember speaking with Brett Guido and Dr. Lolli and  several others after the Levy failed in the Summer and saying that this actually favored the "Pro Levy" crowd. With school being out and no real campaigning going on, the levy narrowly failed.

I knew that once school was back in session that the focus have a definite influence on the outcome.

Well really I think the increase in turnout was what did it. More so than any campaigning. People who REALLY cared came out and voted in August. The people who might have casually supported it probably didn't vote in August, but when it was put in front of them on the general election, they voted for it. That's my theory at least

plus the August vote was very poorly advertised. I know quite a few people who had no idea when the vote was scheduled

That was not my question. My question was to the ones that were appointed by the state. Do they stay or do we vote on new ones? And to what control does the board have now?

Congrats! LMAO!!

seems kind of silly

best case scenario it offsets the cost for 1 person and the rest are out the pool money on top of the money owed for the new levy.

That sure makes sense coming from a crowd that was voting no because they couldn't afford any more taxes.  All of a sudden there is a gambling fund.

Well if you are one then perhaps you should run?

I mean if you you sure seem to have very strong opinions on the way things should be done.  Why not put it to good use?

The Fiscal Oversight Commission is a separate state appointed entity from our board. Our board members stay. Control will go back to the board... at what point? I don't know but I will find out how that is turned over.

Many of the questions found in this thread can be found on the Levy website. www.45050.com

Specifically fiscal accountability questions. You should know who our new treasurer is.... http://www.45050.com/uploads/2012810854117778.pdf

You can also see the State verified 5 year projections and see clearly that we will need to renew or put a levy on in 5 years. In any typical school district... levies are placed on the ballot every 3.5 years or so.

Get informed... look at the factual, state verified information that the levy committee distributed.

Just so you know the site is not working. Is it down because the levy passed? Or is there just a problem in the system?

They must be making adjustments. It was up an hour ago. Sorry. You can also find much of the info on the facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=291139447658686&set=pb.283797171726247.-2207520000.1352334371&type=3&theater

Ahhhh CM CM... Buddy you need to lighten up. The pool is none of your concern since YOU are not in it -K? Our money will now be forceably taken from us on a mathmetically proven insufficient funding and assine attempt at correcting a BAD DECISION MAKING PROCESS of the local school district!
It will NOT be enough to make a dent in the problem created by Good Ole Boys wanting toys to remind them of how it could have been "if only"  - in their glory days and by a simple group of people who truly believe that somehow they are better than others who instead of investing in education - they go for only the biggest and best of you name it - in an attempt to appear some how superior to other districts.
Both are consistant and flawed prospects which are destined to cause more heartache to the actual homeowners in Monroe.  Good luck with trying to sell your  Falsely inflated home value because this pitiful levy passed - the economy is still in the tank for at least another 4-6 years which means THERE IS NO MONEY to take on a mortgage and the outrageous taxes imposed by city & schools in this area.    Guess those home buyers will just have to slum it in a school district that did not waste 5-7 million dollars that they cannot account for.

And those "you just increased your home value" votes - sit tight and wait for it... it won't be long before we hear.... "Yet another something too complicated to explain or investigate has come to light and we have to cut programs even deeper because the amount we asked for was insufficient...UNLESS YOU WANT TO GIVE US A SECOND SMALLER levy for just another 5 years to make us upright....it will only raise your taxes an additional $30.13 a month.  Aren't the kids worth another $30.13 for their future???"

Truly, its sounding more and more like some poor 3rd world country ad and I personally find it disgusting.  Maybe Sally Struthers can come walk through the old high school for the ad - should not cost more than the money wasted on signs, flyers, and putting it on the ballot anyway  Might even be entertaining.
The bottom line is - the levy passed - we are all forced to pay for it and IT STILL WILL NOT BE ENOUGH!  I give it maybe 21 months before they have their hands stuck out again because we have a black hole in the financial division of our school system that sucks the money to an unexplainable place never to be seen again...
TRUE DAT!  LMAO!!Wink

I have nothing agst the people who did not vote for the levy if their main reason was they are on a fixed income, they have no kids, grand children, etc... in the school system.  But those that sit back and the only reason is they don't trust the board with their decision making.  For those that use this reasoning then why aren't you on the board or running for a board seat?  If you know where the problem is then fix it by running for a position on the board, don't just sit back and point the finger.  These new board members are there to try to fix the problem and could use your support! JMO

Thanks Paul

or better yet...if this town is so mismanaged by it's elected officials and misusing the tax base as often and as recklessly is purported why continue to live here?

Surely there must be some town around here that holds your values more close to heart.

Oh I'm light alright.

It just makes no sense.

You can keep ranting about this and that.  It's clear to me you want this town to remain as it was in your memory and more pushing forward into the future.

The interchange looks gorgeous....but I am sure it's only a matter of time until you make post about that as well.

If you have it all figured out and love Monroe that much put your money where your mouth is and run for a seat.  you won't
