During the design phase of the improvements to Lawton Avenue and the widening
of SR63 CT Consultants discovered that there was not enough space for the lane widening of SR63
to  meet  ODOT's  requirement  for  clear  space  of  the  signal  poles  and  they  must  be
moved  or protected with guardrail.  During the design phase of the previous signal project with
ODOT, it was determined that these signal poles were undersized to handle the improvements that the
other intersections  had  received  such  as  illuminated  street  signs,  etc.,  but  ODOT  was
unwilling  to increase the pole size at that time.  This is an opportunity to move these poles to a
safer location as well as improve the intersection to match the other intersections throughout the
City.   These design fees also include adding additional lighting to the intersection of Lawton
Avenue and SR63. The cost of the additional design fees is $29,800 and is included in the 2019
operating budget.  The estimated cost of construction for these additional improvements is
approximately $250,000.  This information  was  previously  discussed  with  the  Public  Works
Committee  during  one  of  their meetings.
